South Coast House, St.Peter
COMPLETED 2017 // REFURBISHMENT
The site in St Peter overlooks St Aubin’s Bay, and the clients asked Godel Architects to remodel and extend their home to meet modern needs while making the best use of the setting and existing structures. The original 1934 Arthur B. Grayson house had been altered many times, leaving it disjointed, so the elevations were rationalised to create balanced façades through re-worked openings, refined stucco detailing and remodelled chimneys, with a traditional palette of render and slate reinstated. Inside, the layout was reorganised to create a smooth flow and strong connections between the house and its surroundings, with new openings, terraces and balconies positioned to capture the views. Existing amenities, including the pool building and guest wing, were refurbished, and the site was extensively landscaped to match the quality of the house. The result is a formal home with a sense of permanence and calm, set within generous gardens above the bay.
