COMPLETED 2016 // NEW BUILD

Godel Architects were appointed in March 2011 to design a replacement for a single-storey cliff-top house that had poor thermal performance and an impractical layout of small rooms, doors, and corridors, making modernisation neither economical nor suitable for the client’s needs. A new dwelling offered the chance to meet rigorous sustainability goals through a super-insulated envelope while also creating a home with clear internal flow, strong links to outdoor spaces, and full benefit of the bay views. The design responds sensitively to the landscape while delivering a sharp, distinctive architectural form. A refined palette of contemporary materials reinforces this approach: white render sits alongside rich dark stone cladding that continues from inside to outside to strengthen the visual connection with the surroundings, slate roofs add a robust finish, and dark powder-coated aluminium frames complement the walls.
