L’Orangerie, St.Brelade

COMPLETED 2022 // NEW BUILD

Godel Architects were appointed to design and deliver a new dwelling beside the 1932 Arthur Grayson house, Les Lumieres, with a form and scale that respect its neighbour while standing confidently as a piece of contemporary architecture. Inside, flowing spaces lead through the house with views to the garden and sea, and a series of crafted moments created through careful detailing and high-quality materials; the bedroom suites are arranged and sized to make the most of the site. A basement pool and health suite offer generous space and light, with direct access to the formal gardens. The design is crisp and modern, with subtle references to the Art Deco character of Les Lumieres, including a dramatic curved staircase, and the house is finished in honed and split-faced limestone that reveals occasional fossils for added texture.
