Cliff Top House, St. Martin

This Art Deco style residence occupies a dramatic position high above the coastline, commanding uninterrupted ocean views and a strong sense of place. The design approach sought to soften the visual impact of the building on its prominent site by stepping elements of the accommodation into the natural slope of the cliff. This strategy allows parts of the house to sit discreetly within the landscape when viewed from inland, while each tier is carefully aligned to open out towards the sea and capture the full sweep of the horizon. Inside, the plan balances sheltered, intimate rooms with generous spaces designed for hosting, creating a home that works equally well for quiet living and large gatherings. The detailing, craftsmanship, and material quality were all executed to the highest standard, reflecting the ambition of the project and the expectations of a residence in such a setting. As a result, the house stands as one of the island’s most distinguished homes, combining architectural presence with a refined, sensitive response to its coastal environment.
